Big River at the Galveston Island Musicals - July 26, 2007
Thirty-nine members and guests thoroughly enjoyed an evening in 
Galveston at the Galveston Island Musicals on July 26.  After a nice dinner at Luby's Cafeteria, we proceeded to the 
Galveston Convention Center at the San Luis Resort where Roger Miller's "Big River" in two acts was staged.  Adapted 
from the novel by Mark Twain, we follow narrator Huckleberry "Huck" Finn and a befriended runaway slave, Jim, down the 
Ohio in their mischievous adventures with strangers ('King & Duke') and close friend (Tom Sawyer) before a very 
gratifying ending.  Eighteen marvelous songs were sung with passion and interlaced into the play.  In the lobby after 
the play, we congratulated the costumed cast in their standard receiving line.   A group picture taken by president 
Ralph Garcia on the steps of the Convention Center closed out the activities.
