San Jacinto Monument - March 27, 2008
Israel’s
Day Tour to the San Jacinto Monument turned out to be a very enjoyable
trip. Although it was a small group (only 13 showed up) we had a great
fun time. For those who could not make the trip,
“You missed out on a great time.” Our main
destination, of course, was the visit to the Monument, but first we
stopped at Gringo’s for lunch.
We
left Bayland Park on time at 10;15 a.m. and arrived at
Gringo’s at 10:50 a.m. Some in
the group mentioned that they usually ate breakfast at that time. But
when they started smelling chicken and beef fajitas their taste buds
‘forgot about breakfast.’ We ate
chips and salsa before the main dish arrived. Gringo’s fixes
a delicious plate of beef fajitas with beans, rice, guacamole salad.
And everyone cleaned up on them. This followed a delicious
cone of vanilla ice cream.
At
San Jacinto we saw an interesting 35 minute film titled
“TEXAS FOREVER.” Although most of us have heard the
Texas story a million times, there’s always something new you
pick up. It was a good relaxing movie to see after the big meal we just
had.
After
the film we toured the museum and saw many interesting historical
artifacts pertaining to the Texas Independence. And although we
did not go on the Battleship Texas we did get a close up look
at it.
The
best part of all of this is that we enjoyed each other’s
company laughing and cutting up and just having a great time and
that‘s what it is all about.
