TI/TIHAA BBQ Event - September 12, 2013

by Gary Luckett

Stafford Centre presented an ideal venue for the 24th annual TI sponsored event.

TI retirees and their spouses/guests celebrated the 24th annual TI sponsored BBQ event at the Stafford Convention Center on September 12th. The new venue was needed due to the closing of TI building #1. Stafford Centre was bright and airy with easy access from the parking lot to the large dining area. Mary Brown and Lucy Salas worked with Donna Manderscheid (TI HR) and the Stafford Convention Center to arrange the menu, tables, and the other logistics needed to make the event the enjoyable evening we could all enjoy.

A time to enjoy good food and to socialize with old friends from our past at TI.

Thanks again to all the TIHAA board members who organized the event again. Special thanks to Daryl Moss for the hours spent generating the list of invitees from the list of TI retirees and hosting (with Brenda) the “envelope stuffing” party. Over 1000 invitations were mailed out to retirees in the Houston area.

As the 266 guests arrived they were given a name tag, a key chain with LED light, and a raffle ticket for gift cards to be drawn later. When the guests were seated Mary Brown welcomed the guests pointing out the drinks available and describing the 2 serving lines.

Treasurer Gary Luckett invited guests to visit the back tables with flyers showing TIHAA activities and pick up a membership

form if they were interesting in joining. He also reminded current members that it was a good opportunity to renew their memberships for 2014. By evenings end Gary and Jean Houston had signed up 17 new members and 53 current members renewed for 2014 and beyond.

While dining on BBQ and the “fixins” the guests were entertained by the oldies band the Bayou City band. After everyone finished eating, president Lucy Salas welcomed everyone again. She mentioned the bus trips and Christmas scheduled for the rest of 2013. She invited everyone to pick up brochures on the tables near the exit. She then introduced our guest speaker Jerold Givens (TI management).

Gary Luckett is on duty at the Membership Table.
Jerold talked about the status of TI's business and TI's push into the analog side of the business. He also described the progress on the new TI building at US 59 & University Blvd in Sugar Land. It is still on schedule for occupancy in the first quarter of 2014.

Dorothy Wanza & Betty Parker, along with other volunteers, see that everyone signs in and gets their raffle tickets.
After Jerold finished his interesting talk, the band played more oldies. Mary Brown and Ralph & Estella Garcia drew numbers for 6 gift cards.
