Sugar Land Skeeters Baseball Drive Yourself Day Trip - July 16, 2018

by Lawson Cook

Constellation Field is a nice comfortable stadium to watch baseball.

This was a Drive-Yourself Day Trip, with free tickets, compliments of the City of Sugar Land, that can be used at any of the Skeeters

remaining home games. The largest group of TIHAA folks attended on Monday July 16, but others are attending at other dates.

On Monday, July 16, with temperatures in the mid-90's and humidity in the 90% range (as usual in Houston), a hearty group of TIHAA members watched our Sugar Land Skeeters pound the Pennsylvania Warriors 3 to1 at Constellation Field. The poor Pennsylvania Road Warriors are the worst team in the Atlantic League this season, and had to endure further humiliation by the Skeeters for the entire home series this month. July is not my pick for the optimum time for outdoor activities in Texas, but there was a nice breeze blowing in from right field, and cold beverages and dollar hot dogs to make things a little more bearable. Fortunately, the 7:05 PM starting time allowed the sun to move behind the stands and almost all seats were in the shade, and we could sit anywhere we wanted.

Our fearless Day Trip Coordinator, Mary Brown, was selected to participate in a little game out on the field between innings. She make a nice try, but didn't quite win the prize. Better luck next time, Mary. I'm sure the game was rigged!

TIHAA was able to acquire the 200 tickets as a gift from the City of Sugar Land to Texas Instruments; then TI passed them down to us. Free happens to be a nice deal, regardless of the weather.

As it stands now, as this is being written, the Skeeters have won their Freedom Division of the Atlantic League in the first half of the year and are handily leading their division this second half of the year. They currently have the best record of any of the other seven teams in both divisions of the Atlantic League. With reasonable $5 parking and food not a whole lot more expensive than McDonalds, a Skeeters baseball game is a good way to get a break from the TV set, entertain kids and grandkids, and support our other home town baseball team.

L to R: Daryl & Brenda Moss, Ashton (friend of Thomas), and grandsons Thomas (12), and Jonathan (16) attended the game on Thursday, July 19th and watched the Skeeters pull out a come from behind win from the Road Warriors 8 to 5.
